Old Remedies

Natural remedies our Grandmothers knew..

Back to home page.

Face Cleanser: Steam the face with boiling water and a pinch of lime flowers (from health shops). Refresh the skin when dry, with slices of cucumber. This helps to close the pores.

Soothe Your Eyes: Apply slices of raw potatoe.

To Whiten Hands: Hands often stain after gardening, housework and vegetable peeling. Rub them with the inside of a lemon and use handcream afterwards to stop the lemon juice making them sore.

Nails: Rub with a slice of lemon to strengthen nails and remove dead cuticles.

Insomnia: Hop filled pillows can help. Available commercially.

Relieve Minor Burns: Very minor burns, where the skin is not broken can be soothes with a slice of raw potatoe.

Fresh Air: A bowl of water containing eucalyptus leaves freshens a room, especially where there is central heating.

Keeping Flies Away: Bunches of dried lavendar, or mint, in a room help keep flies out.

These are all simple, cheap, and harmless remedies. Try them and see if they work for you!
